1)Vandhe Bharat Mission: The Biggest Evacuation Exercise begins :– On May 7, 2020, the Government of India is to begin “Vandhe Bharat Mission”. The mission is considered as one of the biggest evacuation exercise.
The Vandhe Bharat Mission aims at bringing stranded Indians from all over the world. More than 14,800 Indians are stranded abroad.
2)For the first time in India: More rural Internet users than Urban:– The Internet and Mobile Association of India recently released a report according to which the active internet users in rural India has increased by 10% as compared to that of rural India. According to the report, rural India had 227 million active internet users and urban India had 205 million intternet users.
3)IMD includes PoK and Gilgit-Baltistan:- The Indian Meteorological Department has begun to include Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Ladakh and Muzaffarabad into its meteorological sub-division of Jammu and Kashmir.
The change has reflected in the daily forecast of north west India. The weather forecast will be given for the entire sub-division of Jammu and Kashmir and not for specific areas.
The change reflects the changed status of Ladakh. It also comes with underlying message to the Pakistan Government. The change comes after Pakistan Government decided to hold elections in Gilgit-Baltistan.
4) Vesaka Day :– The Day if being celebrated by the United Nations since 2000. The resolution to celebrate the day was passed in 1999.
The decision to celebrate birthday of Buddha as Vesak Day was first formalized at the World Fellowships of Buddhists conference that was held in Sri Lanka in 1950.
It is also known as Wesak or Buddha Day. It is a celebration of Buddha’s birthday and, for some Buddhists, marks his enlightenment (when he discovered life’s meaning).
The festival commemorates the birth, enlightenment (Buddhahood), and death (Parinirvāna) of Gautama Buddha in Theravada and Tibetan Buddhism.
