1) National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research :- National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research, Goa (erstwhile NCAOR) continues to contribute its share in the fight against COVID19 Pandemic.

The National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research (NCPOR) was established as an autonomous Research and Development Institution of the Ministry of Earth Sciences (formerly Department of Ocean Development), Government of India on the 25th May 1998.

With a mission mandate that is quite challenging, the Centre is designated as the nodal organization for the co-ordination and implementation of the Indian Antarctic Programme, including the maintenance of India’s permanent station in Antarctica.

2)Gadkari lauds completion of Kailash – Mansarovar Yatra Route from Dharchula to Lipulekh (China Border):– Shri Nitin Gadkari has complemented the efforts of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) for achieving the completion of road connectivity from Dharchula to Lipulekh (China Border) famously known as Kailash-Mansarovar Yatra Route.

About BRO :- The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) develops and maintains road networks in India’s border areas and friendly neighboring countries. Officers from the Border Roads Engineering Service (BRES) and personnel from the General Reserve Engineer Force (GREF) form the parent cadre of the Border Roads Organisation. It is also staffed by officers and troops drawn from the Indian Army’s Corps of Engineers on extra regimental employment (on Deputation). Currently, the organisation maintains operations in twenty-one states, one UT (Andaman and Nicobar Islands), and neighboring countries such as Afghanistan, Bhutan, Myanmar, and Sri Lanka.

3)Royal Bengal Tigers in Sundarbans increase to 96:- Under IUCN, the Royal Bengal Tigers are listed as Endangered Species. The Sundarbans are of universal importance and is the largest mangrove forest in the world. It is one of the World Heritage Site.


  • Intergovernmental body to save 5 sub-species of tigers over 13 tiger range countries.
  • 13 Tiger range countries are: Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Russia, Thailand and Vietnam.
  • Secretariat at New Delhi
  • Global Tiger Initiative: alliance of govts., international agencies, civil society and pvt. sector to save wild tigers from extinction

4)NSAFE: First antimicrobial and washable Face Mask :- The Startup of IIT Delhi has found an antimicrobial face mask that can be washed and reused for 50 times. The Nanosafe Solutions at IIT Delhi has developed the masks to fight against COVID-19.

Highlights :- The NSAFE face mask provides 99.2% of bacterial filtration.
This is the first fabric-based face mask that is antimicrobial and washable. The mask complies ASTM standards.

About ASTM International:- It was formerly known as American Society for Testing and Materials. It is an international standards organization that develops and publishes technical standards for materials, services and products. The headquarters of the organization is located in Pennsylvania. It was founded in 1898.

5)May 8: World Thalassemia Day
Theme: The dawning of a new era for Thalassemia: Time for a global effort to make novel therapies accessible and affordable to patients.

6)UNEP: Actress Dia Mirza’s term as Goodwill Ambassador extended. On May 7, 2020, the United Nations Environment Programme extended the term of actress Dia Mirza as the Goodwill ambassador of India till 2022. The actress is also United Nations Sustainability Development Goal Advocate.
