1)Periodic Labour Force Survey: Decline in Self-Employed households:-The National Statistical Office recently released the Periodic Labour force Survey. According to the survey, the percentage of self-employed households in rural India declined from 52.2% to 51.7% in the year 2019.

The Survey says that in Urban India the self-employed households declined from 32.4% to 31.8%.

The decline in rural India is mainly because of the falling dependence on agriculture. The self-employed households that depend on agriculture has declined from 37.8% to 36.6%.

2)18th Bench of CAT in UTs of Ladakh and J&K :- The Government of India recently inaugurated the 18th Bench of Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) for the Union territories of Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir.

The setting up of CAT bench for Jammu will reduce the burden of several courts. The bench will deal exclusively with the service matters of government employees.

The CAT was established under Article 323 of the Constitution. The tribunal will adjudicate complaints regarding conditions of service of public servants and also recruitment of posts associated with the affairs of the UTs. The CAT has been conferred with the powers to exercise itself as a High Court. This has been done under Section 17 of the Administrative Tribunal Act, 1985.

3)COVID BEEP:- COVID BEEP, the first physiological parameter monitoring system for COVID-19 patients.

COVID BEEP is Continuous Oxygenation and Vital Information Detection Biomed ECIL ESIC Pod. It is the first indigenous wireless cost-effective parameter monitoring system. The COVID BEEP was developed by IIT Hyderabad and ESIC Medical College Hyderabad.

4)India to set up Coal Exchange:- India is to set up Coal Exchange trading platform soon. According to the proposal to set up the India Coal Exchange platform, the entire coal mined in the country is to be traded on a common platform called “Coal Exchange”.

It is important to set up the trading platform as it will pave way for multiple buyers and sellers in coal sector. It is to be noted that the coal ministry will start auctions for commercial coal mining on June 11, 2020.

5) ARPIT: Airborne Rescue Pod for Isolated Transportation by Indian Air Force :- The Indian Air Force recently developed Airborne Rescue Pod for Isolated Transportation (ARPIT). The pod is to be used to evacuate critical patients that are suffering from COVID-19.

The Indian Air Force identified the need for an air evacuation system that will prevent the spread of infectious aerosols from the COVID-19 patients during air travel. This has now been fulfilled by ARPIT.

The ARPIT uses HEPA, High frequency Particulate Air H 13 filters to support invasive ventilation.

6)India’s first Online Waste Exchange launched:- The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy launched the first online waste exchange programme. The programme was launched for safe disposal of toxic wastes and promote recycling and reuse of toxic wastes.

The online waste exchange programme was launched on the occasion of World Environment day. The platform is to track, audit, scrutinize the waste and encourage proper utilization of the waste.

7) Mission Sagar: INS Kesari reaches Seychelles:- The Indian Naval Ship Kesari reached Port Victoria in Seychelles to provide COVID-19 related medicines under Mission Sagar.

The Mission Sagar was launched by the Indian Navy to provide COVID-19 related essential medicines. The Government of India under the mission is providing assistance to foreign countries in dealing with COVID-19.

8) State of India’s Environment Report:-The Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) has released the State of India’s Environment, 2020 report. The CSE also publishes the environment magazine called Down to Earth.

According to the report, around 19 major events have claimed 1,357 lives in 2019. More than 50 lakh internal displacements have occurred in India in India in 2019. This is the highest in the world according to the report. One on five internal displacements caused by disasters in the world were in India.

9) Javed Akhtar: First Indian to receive Richard Dawkins Award:- Javed Akhtar has become the first Indian to receive the Richard Dawkins award.

Javed Akhtar is a renowned lyricist in the Indian film industry. He was awarded Padma Shri in 1999. He has also won the Sahitya Akademi award and Padma Bhushan.

The award is presented by the Atheist Alliance of America (an NGO). The awards are presented to those distinguished individuals that come from the world of scholarship, science, education or environment and proclaim values of rationalism, secularism upholding scientific truth.

10) India first in world to make internet-controlled Robot:-An engineer from Thane has developed an internet-controlled robot. The bot is first of its kind. The robot addresses the needs of the hospitals treating COVID-19 patients.

The robot has been named Coro-bot. It can independently dispense food, beverages, water, medicines. The robot also gives good advises to patients without the aid of nurses, staffs or other care givers.

12)Environment Performance Index: India ranks 168:- The Yale University recently released the biennial Environment Performance Index. India scored 168th rank out of 180 countries. In 2018, India scored 168th rank out of 180 countries. In 2018, India scored 27.6 out of 100 and secured 177th rank.
