Bestu Varas is the Gujarati New Year. It marks the start of the Hindu calendar’s Kartik month.
After all, Bestu Varas coincides with the Govardhan Puja.
The day is also observed by worshipping the Govardhan Hill, which legend has it that Lord Krishna worshipped in order to protect the people of Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, from heavy rain.
